Before Margaret Thatcher could take on the British Left, she had to overcome the people in her own party who were only interested in being in power. She had to face down the people whose main interest was in preserving the social order even if the ship went down.

Lady Thatcher was reviled in Britain by the chattering classes with a vitriol we here in the States never knew before Bush 43. The animus against her was more than just the Left not getting its way.
